Recently purchased a used JD 5510, 690 hours, reverser trans. It's a great tractor except for 1 problem. At various different engine rpm speeds the engine shakes a lot. Usually from 2000 to 2300 rpm & at slow < 1000 speeds. The exhaust pipe acts like it will come off & even the body panels vibrate. I my 2640 never did this. The 5510 I rented from a dealer didn't have this problem. What am I looking at? Also, I use this tractor with a new Woods batwing 15 ft mower BW 180. When the mower is running I get the same shaking, but at diffferent rpms.

Most likely a bad injector. However there could be a few more serious concerns. But a good mechanic on site is really what you need to check if something is out of balance, came apart or broken. ....

Certain engines have a "spot" in the rpm where they shake. Usually at idle and then again at a higher rpm (with odd numbered cyl.) With 4 or 6 cyl. engines they will normally only shake at idle. I would watch that the balancing shaft is timed right. ....

This might be a simplistic question but have you added any fuel conditioner. It could just be bad diesel or a little water in the tank. ....

Sure does sound like a weak injector. You may have to isolate each injector by loosening each tube nut to each injector individually while this rough idle conditon it occuring. Loosen each nut and observe if the idle shake gets worse or if no effect takes place. The injector that on effect takes place is probably the weak or bad injector. Pull that injector and take it to get pressure tested. ....
